It was part of Trichy central council and was separated in  1981 It consisted of Salem, Dharmapuri , Ooty and coimbatore dioceses.


Dharmapuri was delinked on 27-7-97 Ooty was delinked on 1-2-98 Coimbatore was delinked on 20-8-98 Salem Central Council at present has two particular councils namely Salem Particular Council (President A.Xavier) and Vellandivalasai particular council ( President  J.Kamalnathan)
