6.  Brief History of the Central Council :

Our fraternal greetings from Vellore. Please find given here below some of the highlights of Vellore town and the diocese.

Vellore is the headquarters for the Vellore District of Tamilnadu, in South India and headquarters for Diocese.

The famous Christian Medical College and Hospital is at Vellore.

Now, regarding the Diocese, earlier to 1970 there were only three conferences that functioned.  This was mainly because people did not know much about St. Vincent De Paul and the Society.  Brother Thangaraju, after he took charge as the National Vice-president of India, evinced keen interest in the works of Vellore Diocese.  On 11.11.1985 with 11 conferences the Vellore Particular Council was formed.  After a few years, 13 more conferences were assembled and with the newly formed conferences, the Thiruvannamalai Particular Council was established in the year 1990.  Later on, in the year 1992 the third Particular Council was constituted at Chetpet with 10 conferences in it.  Thus, with 34 conferences, on 10.12.1995 the Vellore Central Council was born.  This was possible once again due to the efforts and concern of Bro. Thangaraju, our Former National President and Bro. Joseph Pandian, the Present National President, in consultation and under the able guidance of His Excellency Most  Rev. Dr. A. M. Chinnappa, Bishop of Vellore, who performed the inaugural rites of Vellore Central Council.

Between the years 1995-2000, we have formed 18 more conferences and as on date, we have a total of 51 conferences of  St. Vincent De Paul in 72 Parishes under Vellore Diocese.
