Brief History of the Central Council: Upto 1977, the isolated Conferences of the Vijayapuram Diocese were under the Changanacherry Central Council, without having any official status. Having realised the progressed involvement in Vincentian activities, the Changanacherry Central Council came forward to uplift us by establishing a separate Particular Council, for the Conferences of Vijayapuram Diocese. As a result, with the consent and eclesiastical approval of our then Bishop Rt.Rev.Dr.Cornelius Elanjikal, Changanacherry Central Council declared the official formation of Vijayapuram Particular Council in the year 1977,with a view to promote this particular Council into a Central Council in due course of time. Even though the Particular Council started only in June 1977, 14 Conferences were working the in the Diocese. The official inauguration of the Particular Council was on the 19th of June 1977 and Mr.T.P.Varghese was selected as the President. By the end of 1977, the strength of Conferences came to 25. Thereafter, considering the remarkable progress we have made, the Changanacherry Central Council again very kindly and strongly recommended to the National Council of India, Bombay, for the immediate inception of an independent Central Council for the Diocese of Vijayapuram. As a result, our Central Council came into existence in March 1979 with a strength of 35 Conferences. Mr. T. P. Varghese was nominated by the National Council of India as the first President of Vijayapuram Central Council, with the consent of our Bishop. Now we are having 110 Conferences under the jurisdiction of 8 Particular Councils. |

10. Major Projects of the Central Council:
The main scheme of the Central Council is to construct small houses for the Poor. So far, we were able to construct 125 houses in different parts of the Diocese. Also we were able to complete repair works of 105 houses. The other projects are cow/goat distribution, distribution of sewing machines, making toilets for the needy.
