9. Brief History of the Central Council:
The Society, an International Fraternal Organization of Catholic Lay People was introduced in Mangalore in the year, 1926 with the establishment of Conferences in 4 Parishes of the Diocese of Mangalore. In the years that followed, the Society grew steadily and in order to coordinate the activities of the several Conferences, the Mangalore Central Council was formed on 01-07-1959. As on 30-09-2003, there were 108 Conferences of which 107 grouped under 10 Particular Councils with 1428 active members, namely:

The Council holds four Quarterly Meetings at periodic intervals and one Annual General Meeting. Rev. Fr. Valerian D’Souza, Director, St. Joseph Engineering College is the Spiritual Adviser. 11. Major Projects of the Central Council:
SSVP, Mangalore Central Council is proud to announce the permanent project on hand, i.e., Ozanam Home for the Aged, in Kallianpur,Udupi District, which is managed by the SSVP, Udupi Particular Council. Presently 41 elderly citizens have sought shelter here to lead a serene and peaceful life before they are called for their eternal reward. Three sisters from the Congregation of Bethany Sisters of Little Flower render their selfless services with zeal and enthusiasm to the residents and are assisted by five other workers. The expenditure to run the House comes to around Rs.2,000/- per day, i.e., Rs.7,30,000/- per annum.
