| 9. Brief History of the Central Council : | |
The
Kottar Central Council was established from Changanacherry Central Council in
Kerala region with 32 conferences. At present 180 conferences are functioning
under 9 Particular Council with 1736 active members including 418 ladies and 692
youth. We are planning and serving for the overall development of the poor &
downtrodden in and around us. Our main motto is to uplift of the poor and
downtrodden, in both economically as well as spiritually. For the effective
functioning of our Conferences, we formed 16 Special Groups, each under the
Chairmanship of one member in the Central Council, monitoring the respective
fields.

12. Major projects of the Central Council Description:
i) Ozanam Bhavan - Home for the Aged.
ii) Computer Training Centre, run by Holy family Conference , Elanthavilai.
iii) Sr. Jeanette Book Binding Centre run by Sr. Rosalie Conference, Elanthavillai.
iv) Ozanam Free Medical Centre, Maravankudieruppu.
v) Educational support to Poor Handicapped Children.
vi) Vincentian Brothers are donating BLOOD for poor patients need under
Ozanam Blood Donor’s forum of the Kottar Central Council .
vii) Conducting Ozanam free medical treatment to the poor patients.
viii) Educational Assistant to the Poor Students for their studies .
ix) Every year we are conducting Community Wedding for the poor ladies,
who are not able to get married due to dowry system in India &
marriage expenses.
13. Major
landmarks within the Central Council :-
i) First visit
of Dr. A.Q.C. Van Ruiten & his wife Sister (Late) Jeanette Van Ruiten in 1994
and inauguration of a fish vending project
as well as laying foundation stone for Ozanam Library cum Reading centre at Elanthavilai,
which established a relationship with the Council
of Netherlands and Kottar C.C.
ii) Visit of the President of Council of England & Wales, Brother Jim O’Connor
with Twinning Officer Brother Terry Brown,
Sr. Veronica and Sr. Francisa.
iii) Visit of our President General Dr. Cesar Viana with his wife as well as Bro. Erich Smith, former National President of Council of Germany his son Mickle Smith and Dr. A. Q. C. Van Ruiten, in 1998. Their visit and inspiring talks motivated our Vincentians very much, which improved our activities a lot.
iv) Released two Tamil Books about the life history of our founder Blessed Frederic Ozanam and our Patron St. Vincent De Paul.
The books are very much useful to the Tamil specking people to know about their life.
