7. A Brief Report on St. Vincent's Boys Town:-


INTRODUCTION:
St. Vincent’s Boys Town is a Home for the street children's and destitutes as we feel that this home is the need of the place and hour. This Home is situated in a backward area in Kanasanapalli Village, Agripalli Mandal, Krishna District. This Home is established with the kind help of the National Council of India and is to house around 50 children of the locality. The Home would train up adolescents to be self employed and self sufficient. In this locality there is a I.T.I., a High School and other Educational institutions. The inmates would be trained in different trades of I.T.I. like welding, turning, carpentry, electronics and computers etc. and seek employment in the industries around the place and also be self employed. This would help them to come up in life.
II. OBJECTIVES:
The main objectives of the projects are to provide shelter, nutrition, health care, sanitation, hygiene, safe drinking water, education, recreational facilities and protect against abuse and exploitation of neglected street children so that they can lead normal and happy life.
To provide and retain the street children in a Home which can offer them wider opportunities of life and prepare them for a better life.
To provide facilities like counseling for their secure career.
To help them grow in a responsible citizens with self respect and dignity.
III. FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT:
To put up the building we have registered 1.75 acres of land in the name of Vijayawada Central Council represented by its president. The land cost approximately Rs. Five Lakhs and Fifty Thousand which was contributed by the donors, Vincentians, Conferences and Central Council’s Spiritual Adviser who has given a big share in purchasing the land. The documents are in the custody of the President, Vijayawada C.C.
To start the construction work Vijayawada Central Council had forwarded the project to the National Council. The National Council President and the Governing Body had consented and recommended the same to the Council General. The Council General had sanctioned Rs. 30 Lakhs and the same has been received by the Central Council of Vijayawada. The actual project application was submitted with an estimation of Rs4. 43,33,120/- an as you all know that all the building materials prices have gone up due to the policies of the State and Central Government, there is a raise of 20% in all the prices. To complete the project i.e. construction of the building alone we need a minimum of Rs. 43 lakhs and we have received Rs. 30 lakhs and we are in shortage of 13 lakhs rupees to complete the project.
IV. CONSTRUCTION OF HOME:
In the plot we have put up a bore well (165’depth) and have installed a submersible pump and obtained electricity single phase costing about Rs. 55,000/- The water is used for the construction and for the Home after construction.
We have built up a shed with Asbestos cement sheet roofing and cuddapah flooring costing approx. Rs. 1,20,000/- This shed is temporarily used to stock building materials including cement iron etc., and this would later be occupied by the watchman and driver etc.
The home plan has been drawn up and it measures 3535 ag.ft built up area. The first floor of the building measuring 3535 sg.ft The ground floor houses Director’s Office, Warden’s room, Kitchen, Store room, dining room, office room, guest rood and the first floor houses one recreation hall, prayer hall, a dormitory for the inmates with attached bath rooms and latrines. The total built up area would be 7070 sq.ft. and we have spent the total amount sanctioned Rs. 30 lakhs and awaiting the remaining amount of Rs. 13 lakhs to complete it without pending work.
We have put up a compound wall, southern and western sides measuring 165’ length and 6’ height with column posts at 10’to 12’ gap. The compound wall is built of hollow block stones. The second phase of compound wall would be taken up later.
V. CONCLUSION:
The Home is a blessing of our Heavenly patron St. Vincent De Paul and Blessed Frederic Ozanam and we are very grateful to the Council General and The National Council of India for their whole hearted support and prayers. With the Co-operation and support and guidance of the National President, Bro. T. Joseph Pandian and all his National Team we would be able to complete the construction of the project and arranged the inauguration of the Home on 7th August 2005. It was Inaugurated by our beloved National President, Bro. T. Joseph Pandian and blessed by the Bishop of Vijayawada, Most Rev. Prakash Mallavarapu. Thank God for all the Good things and Mighty things.
