8.Brief History of the Central Council : 

he Society of St. Vincent de Paul was established in Goa 72 years back at Holy Spirit Church, Margao on 7th Oct, 1930.  The Central Council of Goa was established in Nov. 1953 about 50 years back. Under the Central Council we have 12 Particular Councils and 94 Conferences as of today. Goa Central Council had the privilege of hosting the International meet on 18 and 19 Feb. 1997. It also hosted the National meet twice and in this year 2003 it will be hosting it once again at Pilar, Goa, The Goa Central Council will be celebrating it’s Golden Jubilee in November, 2003.

10.     Major Projects of the Central Council:                

a)     Arc of Hope, Home for the Aged, Candolim, Goa : This home was  inaugurated in April 1987. It is situated at Bamon Vaddo, Candolim. Today it has 27 inmates, nearly 70% stay free of cost and the rest pay whatever they can afford. It is entirely managed on donations received from the village people of Candolim, and elsewhere.

b)     Dr. Alfredo Antao-Home for the Aged Chandor – Goa : This is a home situated in Chandor Salcette Goa, Donated by Antao family, inaugurated on 31st March 2001. At the moment it has 17 inmates irrespective of caste or creed. It is under the care of the Holy Spirit Conference of Margao and Nossa Senhora de Belem, Chandor.

 

c)     K.G. School at Velsao, Goa : This school was established on 12th March 1978, by the Conference of Our Lady of Assumption, Velsao. It is still running very well and the number of students today is 50. The Conference helps the poor students.


 

d)     The Conference of St. Isabal and St. Francis Xavier Panjim, jointly run a clinic for the poor.
