INAUGURATION OF BELTHANGADY CENTRAL COUNCIL

Installation of the new president by National President, Bro. T. Joseph Pandian
Belthangady Diocese came into being in the year 1999. But Sheerady Particular Council consisting of all conferences of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Coorg districts continued to function under Tellicherry Central Council. The National Council of Society of St. Vincent de Paul in it’s letter dated 26-10-06 bifurcated Tellicherry CC into two and established Belthangady as 70th Central Council in India and nominated Bro.T.M.Xavier as CC’s first President.
The inaugural function of new Central Council and installation of first President was held at Jnananilaya, Belthangady on 17-12-2006. The Programme started with thanks giving Holy Mass by His Excellency, the Bishop of Belthangady Diocese, Mar Lawrence Mukkuzhy.
The meeting commenced with the opening prayer by Bro.T.M.Xavier. Rev.Fr.Joseph Mattom, the Spiritual advisor read the Gospel of Mathew 25:31-46 and explained .He stressed the need of adhering to the ideals set by St.Vincent De Paul and Bl. Fredric Ozanam by the new Central Council President and his team.
Bro. K.T. Joseph, President of Tellicherry Central Council. welcomed the gathering. While expressing happiness over the establishment of Belthangady Central Council, he assured all co-operation and help to the new Central Council for it’s successful working. He also thanked the Bishop for rendering timely help and guidance for all SSVP activities in the Diocese.
Bro.P.Rajan, Sheerady P.C.President read a report of Sheerady P.C. from it’s inception from 1981 till 2006. 25 conferences were started till it is transformed in to the new Central Council The new Central Council is divided into three Area Councils namely Udane, Belthangady and Kankanady.
His Excellency the Bishop of Belthangady, Mar Lawrence Mukkuzhy formally inaugurated the new Central Council by lighting the lamp. While giving his inaugural speech the Bishop felicitated the first President Bro.T.M.Xavier and his team of office bearers of the new Central Council. The Bishop advised the President and his team to strictly follow the motto of SSVP ie. Serving the poor and the needy without aspiring for for any name and fame. Bishop also complemented and thanked the president of Tellicherry Central Council and the National president and the national council for establishing the new Central Council. The Bishop nominated Rev.Fr.Joseph Mattom as the first spiritual advisor of Belthangady Central Council.
Bro. T.Joseph Pandian, National Council President presided over the meeting and installed the Central Council President Bro. T.M.Xavier. In the presidential address Bro. Joseph Pandian lauded the support and guidance extended by the Bishop of Belthangady for the SSVP Work in the Diocese and pleaded for Bishop’s continued support and guidance to the newly born Central Council of Belthangady. He also complemented the Tellicherry Central Council President and his team of office bearers for managing the SSVP activities in the Belthangady Diocese and for taking earnest efforts to establish the new Central Council. He promised complete support and guidance to the newly installed President to run the Central Council effectively. As a memento from National Council, he handed over a cheque for Rs.10000/- to Bro.T.M.Xavier for the new Central Council.
Mgr.Joseph Mampallikunnel, vicar general of Belthangady Diocese while felicitating the new Central Council president for the selfless and dedicated service rendered by him through SSVP to the poor patients and destitutes during the last 10 years and blessed him.
Bro.J.Arockiasamy, National Council secretary, Sr.Beatrice Baptista, Lady representative of Western, Kerala and Tamilnadu region, Bro.K.A.Yohannan, Vice President Tellicherry Central Council and Bro.Sebastian Mullapally, the past president of Sheerady Particular Council, felicitated the new Central Council president.
The National president administered the SSVP pledge to Bro.T.M.Xavier and he in turn administered the pledge to other office bearers of Central Council. The names of the office bearers are as follows.
T.M.Xavier(President), Bro.P.Rajan (Vice-president), Bro.K.S.Sebastian(Vice president), Bro.K.M.Paul (Secretary), Bro.C.P.Nicholas (Joint secretary), Bro.P.M.Joseph (Treasurer), Sr.Mary.K.John(Lady representative) and Bro. Joby Abraham (Youth representative).
Bro.K.M.Paul, proposed vote of thanks. Mr.Antony.T.P. compered the programme.
The function concluded with closing prayer by Bro.P.M.Joseph.
